Just now: Anthropic is flying senior technical staff to Washington to repair its fight with the White House after export controls forced its top models, Mythos and Fable, offline. The company is now trying to convince officials that the models can be safely controlled, turning this into a real-time test case for AI geopolitics. Via Axios Monday is getting more interesting by the minute.

The big winner in all of this is going to be open weights models. This is a huge win for the field, as a risk that was entirely theoretical and untested 2 days ago (that a model could be pulled back), now has a new precedent that’s been set. The game theory the US should highly consider, and the risk with regulating AI at the model layer vs. applied layer, is that other countries now have even more incentive to develop sovereign AI. If at any moment a model can be become unavailable to your country’s users or businesses, this poses very real risk on relying on technology from a particular country. As a result, it forces major countries to charter their own path on AI development, which reduces America’s leadership role in this tech stack over time. The most likely solution that other countries will rely on is open weights models, which currently is generally not coming from the US. America should be considering all of these downstream implications as it decides how and where in the stack to be regulating AI. At the same time, we should be doing a ton more OSS innovation.

This is so cool: OpenRouter launched Fusion: a server-side “panel of models” that sends your prompt to multiple models in parallel. It lets them use web search and bash tools, then has a judge compare their answers and a synthesizer write the final response. Potentially at lower cost than relying on one expensive frontier model. The claim: Fusion beats frontier models on Perplexity’s DRACO deep research benchmark.

Okay, this is seriously cool. A team from @GoogleDeepMind, including DeepMind Cofounder Shane Legg, published a paper "From AGI to ASI". In the paper, they include instructions for an AI agent to read along with you. You can open the paper in Codex's in-app browser and have GPT-5.5 read it with you and explain all the concepts. This is the future. AI agents will be part of the target audience, and help us to understand anything we want.
