Fredagens briefing

Dagens Vibes — 25. september 2026

Alex Veremeyenko@alex_verem
Build your own harness. This is a seriously good paper from NVIDIA on self-improving agent harnesses. The paper is called SoL-Pi, out of NVIDIA, NTU and MIT. Every coding agent runs inside a harness. That's the layer that reads files, runs commands, manages memory and talks to the model. Humans tune it by hand, reading long execution logs and turning what they notice into code changes. They handed the job to an AI instead. A research AI watched a coding agent work, proposed changes to the harness, tested them, and kept only what saved tokens without hurting results. It ran about 150 research directions across roughly 500 environments, more than 3,000 runs and over 60,000 agent-environment interactions. Four fixes survived. 1. The agent edits a file and runs the test in one call instead of two. 2. It compresses its memory when a subtask finishes, and only if that's cheaper than keeping everything. 3. It sends big tool outputs in full twice, then swaps them for a 1KB excerpt with a handle to pull the rest on demand. 4. A cheap model summarizes build and test logs, and a verifier rejects the summary if it drops evidence. None of that touches the model. It's all in the software around it. On EdgeBench, a 51-task benchmark, token traffic dropped 44.7 to 49% and API cost fell by about a third against Pi, the harness it was built on. Against the native harnesses it came in 50% cheaper than Codex on GPT-5.6 Sol and 54.3% cheaper than Claude Code on Opus 5. Scores held at roughly 94% of the baseline. They built all of it on GPT-5.6 Sol, then dropped it onto Opus 5 with zero changes. It still used 44.7% fewer tokens. The cost conversation so far has been about cheaper models. This paper says a big chunk of the waste sits in the software around the model, and an AI finds it faster than we do. Their next move is running the search again with the cheaper harness, so a cheaper agent funds the search for an even cheaper one.

SoL-Pi: billigere agenter uden ny model

Jamieson O'Reilly@theonejvo
The frontier labs keep describing these events in the passive voice - the model 'gained unauthorised access,' the activity was 'misaligned,' the agent did something 'unintentionally.' This language frames the agent as an actor that went off on its own, when what actually determines its behaviour is the environment it was placed in and the exact instructions it was given. Someone needs to show the prompts, the task, the tools it was handed, the scope it was allowed to operate in, and the full invocation. Without that, 'the agent disobeyed' is an assertion we're being asked to take on faith, and it happens to be the assertion that conveniently puts the least responsibility on the lab that built and deployed it.

Muse under motorhjelmen

Wes Bos har faktisk været inde i Metas agent: cirka 70 skills, Cloudflare-hostede minisites, egen hukommelsesdatabase og en mulighed for at få hele /opt/ pakket i en zip. Mere computer end chat-boble.

Wes Bos@wesbos
I cracked open Meta's Muse - here are some interesting bits 🔽 1. You can ask it for the entire contents of /opt/ and it will zip it up for you 2. There a ~70 preloaded skills and CLI for everything from spotify to instragram-cli 3. "Spaces" is their website builder that uses Tanstack, Bun and Tailwind. Sharing a site deploys it to Cloudflare 4. It will install anything - like a torrent client 5. It has it's own "Muse DB" with a skill to query its own memories/convos with strict guard rails 6. There are a few things not enabled on my account, including "muse mail" which will give muse an inbox and ability to send email Generally impressed that you can just do anything - it's not limited or watered down like I would have imagined

Opus 5.5 just filed a pull request that changes the streaming behavior in T3 code. It's so cool that I can send off a prompt with a vague idea of what I want, and the result is a ready-to-merge pull request with a video demo of the changes directly in the PR. The PRs I make with AI are significantly better than the ones I used to make by hand. The future is awesome.

so I'm taking a day out so I left opus 5.5 working on some bend2 improvements. the results were TERRIBLE. completely stupid. I couldn't believe how bad its ideas were. I then asked: "are you sure you used opus 5.5?". turns out claude code silently routed subagents to 4.8?

Victor M@victormustar
Opus 5.5 designing LEGO 👀 I asked it to design a Microduck I can build with real LEGO pieces. It: > designed it life-size using 1113 real LEGO parts > verified: 3,204 connections, 0 collisions, every step buildable, centre of mass inside the feet 🤯 > made a 141-page LEGO-style booklet (237 steps) > priced every piece in the browser and prepared the orders on BrickLink

6 days ago i told the 3060 crowd to wake up. here's what the same card does now: > 26 tok/s fresh then, 50 tok/s now with my kernel and the mtp head > 13 tok/s at 77k context then, 18.3 tok/s now > a gpu monitor in 77 minutes then, a whole multi file game overnight now > not even released then, 10,756 downloads now > 8gb cards run it too, 64k context > my kernel got approved upstream by prismml same five year old gpu card, same bonsai 2 weights, everything that changed was software. the most owned gpu on steam just keeps getting better, pull it tonight if you have one.

When a nerd tells me they don't use agents "because I can write better code than any agent", I usually go "huh, sure buddy, you do you". When they tell they don't use agents for monitoring, I just laugh in their face. Seriously. You can't monitor a production deploy better than an agent can. I dunno about AGI but this specific job is something that an LLM can already do better than every single human in the world. For me, as a systems engineer, having agents monitor my infra changes has been (no joke) more impactful in my day-to-day work than having agents write my code. I started doing this many months ago by asking the agent to monitor explicitly after I triggered a deploy; soon after I moved to using a set of my own Skills. Now our Review Agents team has fully automated this workflow with delightful UX and obviously I'm not going back. It's hard to overstate how powerful this is. All it takes, for me, in production: - The Datadog MCP - The PlanetScale MCP (for all our databases) - Our custom MCP for deploys and internal tooling That's it. Some carefully designed gradual deploy pipelines, and the agent just takes care of everything from there. You can't really deploy SEVs to production anymore. Doing infra like this is pure joy. And the safety is just a tiny part of it. The Rollout agent also does the actually hard part of my job, which is _performance_. When the changes you're deploying are a performance optimization, the agent prepares a monitoring plan that ensures the optimization is correct AND effective. I rarely prompt benchmarks for my optimizations anymore. Just fucking go to prod and the agent is gonna give me the best possible benchmark. If you work on systems or infra for a living, you should be setting up your production environments so you can use Rollouts. Not doing so is actually reckless.

Thorsten Ball@thorstenball
Increasingly convinced: people who do best with agents are those that are good at shipping things in small pieces. Someone who could ship a feature in 4 commits going to main now does better with agents than the guy who always ended up with a 6k PR on Friday afternoon.

Nyhedsbonus

The Guardian · 24. september
